Do you want your students to improve their persuasive writing? Look no further! This activity makes learning persuasive techniques fun, practical and memorable!
Dive into the world of persuasive language as students search for the techniques around your classroom. This engaging and interactive activity is perfect for learning or revising persuasive techniques.
How it works
Place the cards randomly around the classroom and give each student an answer sheet.
Students walk around the room and read the definitions on the cards. There are examples and visuals also to support students. When they know what persuasive technique is being described, they put it next to the correct number on their sheet.
At the end of the activity, I go through the answers with them so there is a teacher sheet included with the correct answers- you can display this on the board to check understanding.
Differentiation Options
This resource is easily adaptable and can be completed independently, in pairs or in small groups. One idea I use is to pair students up so one stays at the desk writing and the other goes hunting for definitions. Once they are halfway through, they swap roles.
Persuasive techniques included are:
Repetition
Triple (Rule of Three)
Adjective
Simile
Exaggeration
Fact
Adverb
Rhetorical Question
Pun
Statistics
Logic
Alliteration
Humour
Metaphor

Tone
Imagery
Direct Address
Expert Opinion
Emotive Language

Transform your learning experience and bring the world of “An Inspector Calls” to life with our immersive Drama Circle Activity! This engaging activity brings the plot, characters, themes, context, and key quotes of the play to life through interactive exploration.
What is a Drama Circle?
A drama circle is a practical way to explore information. In drama circle activities, each student gets a card at random. They have to listen for a cue, read a small paragraph in bold and then perform an action or gesture in order to cue the next person. The class collaborate together to make sure they read their cards in order (don’t worry, they are numbered if you get lost!).
Features:
As students read through their cards, the plot will develop. Some cards are focused on plot whilst others introduce characters or link key quotes to context.
Plot Exploration: Explore the chain of events triggered by the Inspector’s interrogation, uncovering secrets and unravelling the family’s facade.
Character Descriptions: Delve into the diverse cast of characters: students will explore the motivations, conflicts, and transformations of each character, gaining a deeper understanding of their roles within the story.
Themes Examination: Examine the underlying themes prevalent throughout the play. This activity will spark discussions where students can analyse how these themes shape the characters’ actions and the overall narrative.
Contextual Understanding: Gain insight into the context of early 20th-century England, exploring the disparities between the privileged upper class and the working class.
Key Quotes Emphasis: Key quotes are underlined throughout the activity allowing students to revise and analyse. Through dramatic readings and discussions, they will explore the significance of these quotes in conveying the play’s themes and messages.
What’s included?
